Every July, the festival Festa Major de Santa Anna, takes place in Blanes and huge fireworks are rocketed up in the sky. Festa Major includes fireworks competition, where there are teams coming from other edges of the world creating their impressive shows.
Where to stay in Blanes
Sa Palomera is a visible large rock in the sea just in front of the town. North from that is the beach Platja de Blanes, and behind that is the old town, with the best shopping responsibilities and restaurant services. The most ideal location is probably around photo 9 regarding the amount restaurants, shops and proximity to the beach. The area south from Sa Palomera is more modern and that's where the majority of hotels are located.

Marimurtra Botanical Gardens
The botanical gardens of Marimurtra are considered as one of the most interesting botanical gardens in whole Europe. In a very beautiful setting, you can admire over 3000 types of plants.
The gardens are divided into 3 different areas; Subtropical, Temperate and Mediterranean, in which there are plants from 5 continents.
Marimurtra is less than one kilometer away from the center, but the road goes uphill and it's pretty steep.
How to get: Walking, taxi or tourist bus/train from Catalonia Square that costs about 6 euros one way and 10 euros with return.
Castell de Sant Joan
The best views over Blanes you get from the hill where Sant Joan castle stands. On clear days, from the top of the wall at 173 meters, you can see all the way to Montjuic hill in Barcelona city. The fortification that was build against the pirate attacks was mentioned first time in the year 1002. The “castle” nowadays is basically a watchtower, so there isn’t anything special to see except the 360° panorama view, which is great.

- From Girona airport by bus. Takes about an hour and costs about 10 euros. Schedules: sagalesairportline.com.
- From Barcelona airport (terminal 2) by train. Takes a little more than 2 hours, but you have to change trains in Barcelona Sants station. Schedules: renfe.com
- From Barcelona airport (Aeroport del Prat de Llobregat) by bus the journey takes approximately 2 hours and costs 11€. You don't have to change buslines, so bus is slightly an easier option than train how to get to Blanes if you arrive to Barcelona airport. Schedules: sagalesairportline.com
Prices in Blanes
Blanes is one of the most affordable holiday destinations on Costa Brava. The gap in accommodation prices between the low and the high seasons isn't either as big as in the smaller beach destinations like Lloret de Mar or Tossa de Mar. Weather in Blanes
Winter: The winter months from December to February are often rainy and the average daily high temperatures vary between 5-10 °C.
Spring: The rains stop in March and the sun is out often. The average daily high temperature climbs up to around 15°C in March, but in May, the average daily high temperature is already at 20 °C. May is often the first month, when the locals hit the beach as you might get occasional hot days.
Summer: From June to August the sunshine is pretty much guaranteed and it gets hot. The temperature climbs up to 30 °C and over especially in July and August, June tends to be less hot.
Autumn: September is still a warm month and it’s often beach weather still during the whole month. The temperature in September stays clearly above 20 °C.In mid-October, the weather cools down to under 20 °C and it starts to rain more often. In November, the temperature is already around 10°C.
